Regional environmental problem that is caused by human actions...?

Here is my assignment:

" For this assignment, you will research and write a short paper in which you analyze an aspect of local human actions that have caused an environmental problem that affects human and environmental health. This paper should focus on specific human actions, rather than a larger concept such as overpopulation or global climate change. The paper should cover how humans are affecting their environment, other living organisms and human health. Also, what social structures contribute to the environmental degradation and what could an individual do to cause change?"

I am just looking for ideas for topics...I am in Washington, so the problem needs to be within the Washington or NW region.Regional environmental problem that is caused by human actions...?1. Well something that occurs almost everywhere is people don't use native growing plants. When non-native plants are used, they are often more difficult to water and need more pesticides. More pesticides, means more water pollution and the more NO2(a greenhouse gas) that gets into the air.

2.Pollution... air, water. All pollution starts in local areas everywhere. It only gets bad when stuff gets all combined together from all these local areas. Look up the Great Pacific Trash patch. All that came from somewhere on land. The concept is 'i am just one person, one trash, can't hurt' but when it gets all added up, it gets bad

3. Burning fossil fuels- we could all walk and ride bikes more. The U.S. is the largest producer of CO2 in the world...even though China and India have wayyyy more people. We are also the country that walks and rides our bikes the least. But the U.S. mentality is that we have to put up this face of we have money, and status and we all want our freedom. Thus we use our cars all the time. You could go off of this

I hope this gives some different ideas and good luck on your paperRegional environmental problem that is caused by human actions...?manner less human can do this work.
