Two Percentage Math problems for AP Environmental Science help?

I am horrible at percentage. and i need some help. I tried doing them, maybe i got them right. But i need some help, thanks!

1) A Population of deer had 200 individuals. If the population grows by 15% in one year, how many deer will there be next year.

So i did 200 times .15, then i added 200 and i got 230.

2) One year I had 40 AP Environmental Science students and the next year i had 50 Enviornmental Science students, what percentage did the population of APES students grow by?

I did 40 divided by 4 and got 10. Then somehow i ended up with 25%, i don't know my friend help me.Two Percentage Math problems for AP Environmental Science help?Both of your answers are correct. However, there is a generic exponential formula that you can use to get them faster, which is a = p(1 卤 r)^t, where a is the future amount, p is the principal (or original) amount, r is the rate of increase or decrease (you add if it's increase and subtract if it's decrease), and t is the time in years.

For your first question, your original amount is 200 deer. The rate of increase is 15% and 1 year has passed. Therefore, there will be 200(1 + 0.15)^1 = 200(1.15)^1 = 230 deer next year.

For the second question, the future amount is 50 students, the original amount was 40 students, and 1 year has passed. The number of students has obviously increased, so you use the plus sign in the formula.

50 = 40(1 + r)^1

50 = 40(1 + r)

5/4 = 1 + r

5/4 - 1 = r

1/4 = r = 0.25 or 25%Two Percentage Math problems for AP Environmental Science help?Your deer population is fine.

the second question asks for percentage increase. The increase is 50-40, which is 10. The base is the original number -- 40. 10 is 25% of 40, so your answer is correct.

To work with percentage problems you can set up proportions (two ratios that are set equal to each other). The basic form is" 'IS / OF = % / 100.

You have to decide which number is IS and which is OF. The % is always the one with the % sign, and the 100 is always there because percent means "out of each hundred". The base is the "OF"

A simple example: 20$ of 50 is ? ----%26gt; "OF' is 50 and "IS" will be X. So 20 / 100 = X / 50.

Your second problem could be restated: increase / base = X / 100. ----%26gt; (50-40) / 40 = x / 100 .Two Percentage Math problems for AP Environmental Science help?my favorite song from each of her albums are
