More unique for the Netherlands, water and dense population.
Compare the population figures for the Netherlands with those of several other countries, (like your own.)Wikipedia has good lists with the facts, but as with all internet information, double check.
The situation with water, rising sea levels, need for dikes along rivers and the sea coast, is well written about in Wikipedia among other places.
For double checking this kind of facts, the sites run by the gouvernment of the country involved as well as something like the CIA are worth trying.
By the way, drugs is less a problem in the Netherlands than in countries like the USA and the UK, even though or because of the 'gedoogbeleid' (allowing the use of and small trade in weed so the police can fight the other kinds of drugs better.)What are major problems the Netherlands is facing today?
Drugs is not really a problem in the Netherlands. not more than anywhere else in the world.
Do a bit on the Dutch eternal fight against the water, with sea levels predicted to rise, we will have to change and improve the water management. As you know, about half of the Netherlands is below sea level, so there is a big challenge there that we are convinced we will win.
Also the Netherlands has a very dense population, we have 395 people per square kilometer, to compare, the USA has only 31 people per square km.
This leads to clogged up roads, high property prices etc
Another one is immigration issues. in the 70's the Netherlands had many immigrants (mainly form turkey and marocco) Their children (2nd or 3rd generation) have trouble finding their place in the Dutch society and cause many social problems, as they do not feel Dutch, but dont feel maroccan either (this is kind of a catch 22 issue) But this might be a hard subject to include, as it is a very complicated social issue, probably better for your social studies project. What are major problems the Netherlands is facing today?Crime in citys and the outskirts of towns
intolerant against migrants from Marokko and Turkey
popolist like Geert Wilders are become more and more seats in the parlament. That shows the right (nazi) turn of some parts of the dutch population. There are lots of problems with muslims.
Hollands recession is growing big time.
Lots of people that live close to the borders to germany or belgium are leaving the country and live in their neighbor countrys but only work in the Netherlands. Too much tax, too much intolernace, too much of everything but too less support.
The Netherlands have lots of problems.
Also with drugs.
sometimes I think people are just to easy going and don't think ahead. What are major problems the Netherlands is facing today?
Drugs are not a big problem, only tourists use drugs.
Environment is a big issue, but no big problem.
Too much traffic on the roads is a daily problem.
Keeping the water out is not a problem, but a big task
The main airport is in the center of a large area with houses and causes a lot of noise.
Even violent crime is getting lesser and lesser. We will be closing jails.
People are getting older and older, and families smaller and smaller, so there is a lot of elderly people.
So not too many problems,What are major problems the Netherlands is facing today?Academic.
Not sure if it can be considered as a "major" Dutch problem.
But I do see as a problem in years to come if Dutch government do not stress more on academic.
Holland is a small country in europe. So, as her population in size and natural resources.
She needs to be more "self contained" than reliance on brains outside the country.
Brains can also be a selling point for a country. What are major problems the Netherlands is facing today?
like most of europe..the europeans are having fewer children or none at all..immigrants continue to have large families. so in 50 years time most of the netherlands, and europe for that matter will be of middle eastern descent..and the rising sea level thing is bogus..ice caps arent melting..dont drink the al gore koolaid. What are major problems the Netherlands is facing today?
why drugs.... really thats not a big problem..the major problem....geert wilders
