What are some causes? Are any of these causes related to human values and environmental ethics?Environmental problem that you feel is significant in your town or city. ?The depletion of groundwater due to increased population.
35 years ago, when our town had only 3500 residents, there were artesian wells (water rising from the aquifer) bubbling with water all over the place. The water table was so high that a horse could sink up to its belly in so many places in the areas where we rode that we had to be very careful.
Now the town has grown to 10,000. The artesian wells are gone. Farmers no longer pay an agricultural rate for water, so hundreds of acres of citrus trees are being yanked out and olives (that require only winter rains) are going in, instead. Residents pay 500% more for water than they did when I was growing up.
It makes me sick.Environmental problem that you feel is significant in your town or city. ?I think I'm the only one that recycles in my area! I live on an Air Force base, and the recycled garbage people come on Wednesdays, but if people have dirty cans, or plastic bottles with the wrapper still on it, or something in there that doesn't belong, the recycling people refuse to pick it up. I clean everything, and mine always get picked up, but the neighbors have all given up... I'll see boxes folded outside, but everybody throws away cans and bottles with their usual trash. I'd say it's environmental ethics.Environmental problem that you feel is significant in your town or city. ?The cement is keeping the rainwater from becoming ground water.
