I heard that if you dont keep up with cleaning your diamonds they will not increase in value over the years and be pretty much worthless..Is this TRUE?? In the jewelry stores I have worked in (and what I use at home in a pinch) the best way to clean your ring (other than professionally with an ultrasonic cleaner or a steam cleaner) is to soak it in a solution of 1 part hot water, 1 part sudzy ammonia, and 1 part Simple Green. Let the ring soak for 15 minutes, more or less depending on how dirty the ring is, then with an old toothbrush (do not use toothpaste, the paste can collect under the stone) scrub the ring thoroughly, rinse with warm water and dry with a paper towel.

Don't use the jewelry cleaner that you can buy in stores. I've worked in a jewelry store for over 3 years and we don't even use that. The BEST way to clean a diamond is to have it acid bathed, but to do a beautiful at home cleaning, use Dawn dish soap and a toothbrush or toothpaste and a toothbrush!

You can go to a store such as Walmart or a drugstore and they have a special jewelry cleaner. I've always seen it in a red jar. It isn't very expensive either. i believe mine was about 10 dollars or so. Inside it also has a brush you can use to scrub it. I usually wash my jewelry at least once or twice a month and when i do, you can really see a difference. They look great! Also, if you don't want to spend the money on the jewelry cleaner you can use just regular toothpaste. I'm not sure why this works but it works very well!
