How can I tell what is real gold, real silver, and real diamond?

I don't want to get jipped. lol but really I'd like to know how to tell, so my friend shows me a diamond, but i have one of my own, they don't look alike. So what another way to tell a fake diamond from a real one. What ways can i find out with silver and gold?
