Should I feel comfortable buying a non laser inscribed GIA certified diamond?

In looking for an engagement ring I found a non laser inscribed diamond. How can I be certain it belongs to the papers? Why would it not be inscribed? I want to make a good buy obviously. Any way I can safe guard against a bad choice?

each diamond is very unique in its characteristics,instead they use the inclusions in diamonds above 1 carat as an marking.



Find a diamond that is under 1 carat and look at the diamond symbol in the cert., you will not find any marked inclusions. Look at a diamond above 1 carat and you will find the inclusions.



In order to know that a diamond is the correct diamond, you also need to take the measurement and compare it to the certificate.

Why waste the resources and money on a less significant stone?



To answer YOUR question; If you are truly concerned that the diamond you are buying doesn't match the papers, it's time to find a new jeweler! You should be able to trust your jeweler implictly, as it's their expertise you are relying on with your money.

You can always take your stone to another jeweler to have the quality verified - if it does not match, you may return it. Also, request a "map" of your stone - each diamond has identifying characteristics, that make it unique from other stones. Any respectable jeweler will show you the map, and let you see the stone under scope so you can see and verify these characteristics for yourself.

The great majority of diamonds are NOT laser inscribed. And the ones that are tend to carry a stiff premium. You can purchase the same quality stone for much less without the inscription and paperwork.



Please, take the time to go to a local, independent, AGS affiliated jeweler. Their standards are much stricter then the chain stores, and their jewelers go through a much more rigorous training and certification program that must be renewed each year. Let them show you the differences, and get you the best deal for your budget.
