How does the Exp Share work in pokemon diamond?

I was under the understanding that the exp share, when given to the first pokemon to enter battle, recieved 1.5 times or 2 times the amount of exp given for the battle. I remember that being a trick in the previous games, but i am not sure if it works in diamond. Does anyone know if this does in fact work?

I ask because last night i beat a level 35 noctowl, and got 810 exp with and without the use of the exp share.How does the Exp Share work in pokemon diamond?yes it works still in diamond and pearl
