Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?

Diamond is a really hard material can it be bullet proof?Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?Diamond is an incredibly strong material and accordingly it is very brittle and will shatter easily. What is really needed is a strong material which can absorb and distribute impact of a projectile (this is why Kevlar, certain steels/ceramics are used). Also, diamond is one of the most expensive materials in the world, and would not be an economical application.



So I guess the simple answer is no.Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?
Impossible!!! Actually according to what I鈥檝e know it is only by gem and to be made into bullet proof armor? It could break! Here is my evidence according to its toughness:

As with any material, the macroscopic geometry of a diamond contributes to its resistance to breakage. Diamond is therefore more fragile in some orientations than others.



Btw, I鈥檓 an Engineering student ^_^Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?I would say maybe. Making an armor out of Diamonds would kind of be heavy and hard to maneuver in. Also diamonds are very strong but brittle. If a diamond is hit in the right spot it would chip. Also I dont think you can melt a whole bunch of small diamonds into one big one. Its one big waste of money. But if it can block bullets like the suit Iron man has, it is well worth it.Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?
possible but very unlikely they'll probablly have invisible cars before this based on a few things



1. too expensive (its a lot of diamond afterall)

2.too hard to put together

3.the right kind of bullet could penetrate it. like a 50 cal. sniper rifle round but a normal round from like a..glock? might not..Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?Yes, but in a bullet proof vest they take the impact of the bullet and distribute it to other parts that are near the body. So a bullet proof vest out of diamond might work but it is not cost efficient and it may be very very very heavy.
You can make a projectile that is capable of defeating any armor any time. There is no such thing as a "bullet proof" body armor, there are just different levels of protection in bullet resistant body armors.Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?
No but I saw on discovery channel that you can turn your loved ones into yellow diamonds. So you can wear them as a memory.
No because it is brittle and will shatter when sruck hard. Hard and britlle often go togeher but are not the same thing.Can diamond be made into bullet proof armor?
no..it shatters...the best armor flex's and absorbs the impact...like high carbon steel that can be made razor sharp,it has no lateral strength
