What chemical reactions are involved in photography?

I need to write a research paper about the chemical reactions involved in photography, how they are used in photography, and any environmental problems these reactions might cause. If you know anything about this, please tell me. Thanks! What chemical reactions are involved in photography? There in one chapter in this book that may answer some of your questions:

http://blog.technicalley.com/index.php/b鈥?/a>What chemical reactions are involved in photography? With digital photography this is a dated question. Seriously, who devolps their own film now a days? Which is sad because photo got me interested in chem.

Anyway. Check this out, it has a lot of reactions going on. The big one is silver. Silver is very light sensitive, Silver choloride will turn purple if left out in the light. It is what coats photo paper that you devolp in a dark room, not what comes out of your printer.

  • Is it ever possible to separate the chemical composition of plastics?

I am no chemist or anything like that, but I tend to worry all these environmental problems that just keeps on growing each day, each year. Anyway, I have watched an episode in History channel, about a certain girl who was able to capture carbon dioxide. I know plastics are different compared to this CO2 that's in the air mixed with other gasses. But do you think that mankind can ever invent something that can separate chemically bound matters? Is it ever possible to separate the chemical composition of plastics?Yes we can separate chemically bound materials and do so all the time.

Plastics however use cyanide as a building block and its because cyanide is so chemically reactive that its such a good Poison and also a good strong ingredient to use in manufacturing.

This causes the problem of how do we break down the plastic and reuse it when we are finished with the original product.

As suggested we can always burn it but that will chemically change the plastic and produce even worse products like dioxins , however it answers your question.

No doubt we can do other things but as cyanide is very strong we may need to use fluorine to over power the cyanide bonds and we then create another problem even worse than the plastic.

The solution is simple stop using plastic so much and start using an alternative that can easily be recycled or broken down by heat etc. However plastic is so good and versatile that to develop an equivalent alternative is a very very hard task and why no has managed to do so yet.

It ironic that we want plastics because they do not break down easily - yet when we finished with them we change our mind and want them to decompose quickly.

We need to only make things from plastics if they require a very long usage life and stop using them for packaging of foods etc like milk cartons when we could use paper or glass.

In my opinion the main problem is simply over population of man kind. The earth is only a certain size and can regenerate or cope with so much of mans interference however we are tipping the balance too far and every one is using so much energy , travel etc that we are generating too much waste (carbon) and at the same time cutting down too many trees to feed our energy demands that it has become unsustainable.

However it will not change as people every where want a large family the problem simply grows and grows. Is it ever possible to separate the chemical composition of plastics? To say never is something I would not do. I am sure that chemical processes can be designed to reverse what has already been created. However this is a material world. The cost would according to those that hold the power, be unacceptable. So instead we continue with the cheaper option, bury or burn the left over and create some more from oil.
I am sure that one day mankind will be able to imitate the action of plants, that is convert carbon dioxide into starch or cellulose and release oxygen, and use just sunlight for the energy required. Cellulose can be used as a fibre such as cotton, and also an artificial fibre, I think it is rayon.
When ???Is it ever possible to separate the chemical composition of plastics?Plastics that can be separated from each other by heat already exist and separating two chemically bound substances happens all the time.

By burning plastic, you also separate the original chemical bond into Carbon, Carbonmonooxide, Carbon-dioxide, Water and all the other different specific chemicals for the type of plastic! Is it ever possible to separate the chemical composition of plastics?
The short answer to your question: no. Plastics are long carbon polymers that would be generally energy-inefficient to melt down, break up, and react with other substances to produce the desired products.

The solution to the problems with CO2 actually has to do more with biology than chemistry. The easiest way to reduce CO2 levels on this planet begins with us: the less we consume and the more we preserve, the lower those levels will be in the future. Some scientists are even promoting iron-fertilization experiments in the ocean to promote growth of organisms that respirate using CO2.

Edit: I guess I didn't quite answer the question. Yes, it is possible to melt down plastics to form other compounds. I was more concerned with the fact that it's not particularly efficient, which I think is a fact that most nature or science channels would be talking about.

What individual person has been promoting alternative energy and what made them go that path?

The question from my teacher: The solutions to our environmental problems begin with small steps by individuals just like you. However, occasionally, an individual with great power, charisma, popularity or wealth serves as the catalyst or, sometimes, financier for greater changes. Research the efforts of one such individual and see if you can determine what life events or experiences have led this person to their strong commitment. What individual person has been promoting alternative energy and what made them go that path?Hey Irish, this is a great assignment, There are problably a hundred people that might fit this description, but if it were me, I would probably research Richard Perez. You've probably never heard of him, years ago he and his wife moved to the foothills of Southern Oregon. While they enjoyed the remote lifestyle a great deal, organic fruits and vegetables, using rain water, living in harmony with the wildlife, they were also frustrated by the lack of energy to do some simple things, like make a good margarita in a blender. It's a long and iteresting story, but here he is 25 years later the founder and editor of Home Power Magazine, a periodical devoted to renewable energy, giving speaches at green living functions, and writing a book or two. He has a large staff in several states now and his work is read in dozens of countries. You might find one of his books in your library, The Complete Battery Book. He wrote it as a response to the complete lack of good information on how batteries work, to fill a void that people getting involved in solar and wind power kept running into doing their research. I met him 12 years ago at an energy fair, his stories were inspirational to us. Now we live in a home that is completely powered by the wind and sun. Does that sound like a success story to you? It does to us.

Anyway, that's my suggestion, you might come up with some others. Good luck Irish, and take care, RudydooWhat individual person has been promoting alternative energy and what made them go that path?I'm not doing your homework, but I'd suggest you to look up Ed Begley, Jr.

What are some simple steps or creative ideas that people can take at home and work to combat global warming?

Global warming is not only one of the most threatening environmental problems, but one of the greatest challenges facing all of humanity. Danger signs are surfacing worldwide as temperatures increase (the last ten years have been the hottest years ever recorded causing glaciers and the polar ice caps to melt, coastal areas to flood and storms to become more severe). If left unchecked, global warming will continue to have a profound impact on our planet that will eventually cause catastrophic results. Fortunately, there are things each of us can do. Buildings -- including our homes -- are major contributors to greenhouse gases they’re responsible for up to 40% of all energy and resource use and approximately 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.|||There are many little things we can do that will collectively make a substantial impact to combating global warming. At the home, if we keep appliances or electronics that is not used unplugged, we will be saving electricity. Switching out lightbulbs for the energy efficient ones definitely help. Replacing old appliances for energystar ones will make a great impact. More drastic changes like switching from electric to propane wherever possible, or installing solar panels on the roof, would help even more. At work, we have motion detection lights after hours so that we don't waste energy. As well, the HVAC system is powered down in non-critical areas during the weekends and holidays to conserve.

On the macro-scale as a society, we need to invest more in alternative energy sources such as:

    - wind and solar energy generation

    - improved battery technologies, which will lead to new applications for batteries

(Case in point: The Saturn EV-1 was originally supposed to use new battery technology that would have given it a range of 300-400 mi/charge, but GM did not invest in battery technology between the concept car (Impact) and the production of EV-1. Can you imagine how many of us would be driving EV-1 or other electric vehicles now had they made the early investment?)

    - alternative fuel for aircrafts, which is a great source of greenhouse gas emissions as well|||Dear Leonardo, I think the best answer chosen by you represent the essence of all the other answers. Congratulation chante82 for your "best answer". Rahul

Why is it that the left is obsessed with the extinction of the human race? If it isn't global warming it's SARS, or bird flu, or ecoli outbreaks. Is it not safe to say that we (as a country) are over populated? OK, yes we are and that is an issue that just as well needs to be addressed. The more people we have equals more who are contributing to this disastrous effect. AND, I know we're all about "free America" but hasn't it come to a time where we need to save America? When China realized where their country was going they stopped it, why can't we? There is too much immigration and there are too many children being born to families who can't even afford them. If we are required to get a driver's license to assure everyones safety before hitting the road why can't there be similar regulations to parenting? And, why are we allowing immigration? I'm not saying I'm prejudice because I'm not, but we have enough problems in our own country that would need to be fixed before we should have allowed this. Whatever though, stop so much immigration and make regulations on becoming a parent. If one child is born into a family that can't afford it, then don't give them money for the second one!|||One simple and effective way to mitigate your contribution to global warming is to offset your carbon emissions. Many non profit organizations offer the service of offsetting your carbon by purchasing carbon credits from the Chicago Climate Exchange. In Colorado, for example, you can offset your carbon through a program called Drive Neutral. The website is www.driveneutralcolorado.org. You simply type in information that calculates your personal "carbon footprint", and your financial contribution goes towards buying carbon credits, planting trees, and furthering the implementation of carbon free energy technologies, such as wind power.|||Some ideas:

    - A shift in renewable resources (i.e. wind, solar, biomass, etc.) for energy sources and incentives for employers for their use.

-Create and promote more energy efficient appliances including light bulbs, but also better housing insulation. Green building should be more widely used along with smaller house sizes.

-Make recycling more readily available and more convenient for people, wherever trash cans are there should also be recycling containers, non-recyclable items such as styrofoam should be discouraged. Sustainability is key. It needs to become part of our culture.

-Incentives for better and improved public transportation should also be considered, along with a push for hybrid vehicles. Walking and biking are also great alternatives.

-Company parties for Earth Day including donation of trees or everyone taking a day to plant some trees. This is important and doesn't take long, I've planted many trees and there is a lot of satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment from that.

-More public awareness (education) is essential and everyone needs to do their part.|||TOGETHER WE ARE A FORCE

If most of us believe that 'someone else will solve this one', then it's already too late.

Here's what you can do (it's important to note that these actions not only save the world, they save you money and make you smarter!):

    1. Once you've seen "An Inconvenient Truth", pass it on... it would be most beneficial to spread the word to corporate leaders so that not just personal behavior but corporate procedure undergoes positive change. Pass the DVD around at work and encourage a mass viewing through your HR department if you have one.

    2. Change your regular bulbs to compact fluorescent ones.

    3. Drive less: walk, bike, carpool, or take metro transit.

    4. Recycle more: before you throw it out, consider donating it to a friend, a relative, a homeless person, or THE GOODWILL.

    5. Use less hot water: take shorter or cooler showers, switch to a low-flow showerhead, and wash your clothes in cold or warm water only.

    6. Avoid products with a lot of packaging and try to avoiding products with a negative impact all together (ex. conflict diamonds or junk food): together, we the consumers have ultimate power over everything in America... if we choose not to buy it, corporations will stop making it. This way it's easy to see that money doesn't run the world, we do. Our demands shape the marketplace.

    7. Adjust your thermostat: turn it down just 2 degrees in winter and up 2 in summer for a huge CO2 savings; try a digital thermostat to regulate temperature at all times of the day.

    8. Plant a tree: now imagine if we made it a custom that every time a baby was born, to celebrate the occasion, we planted a tree. In time, (s)he would inherit the tree and take care of it, thus learning responsibility and partnership. This way each future person's life would be inexorably woven into the fabric of the Earth.

    9. Turn off electronic devices when not using them (TV, DVD, stereo, computer). Unplug them when at all possible (i.e. your cell phone chargers when you’re not using it).

    10. Be a part of the solution at ClimateCrisis.net

Thank you Mr. Leonardo Dicaprio for asking such a useful question. Thank you Mr. John Kerry for answering it, thus adding to its clout. Thank you Mr. Gore and everyone involved in the making of "An Inconvenient Truth."|||Here are some things I suggest:

-Learn how to make your own soap for laundry, household cleaning, and even for regular showers...petroleum products are used in a number of commercial detergents that don't need to be there and they're not good for us or the environment.

-If you can't be bothered to make your own soap buy soap that is vegetable based instead of petroleum based (Seventh Generation is a good one).

-Grow more of your own fruits and veggies - the amount of fuel that is used to import and export food is astounding...do your best to try to do it yourself.

-Try and work on a diet that is more vegetarian based...better for your health and the planet.

    - Drive less, walk more - walk to the grocery store each day and pick up a few things - this will limit how much you can walk home with hence you'll have to think about what you really "need" .

-If you are driving and stop at the drive thru - for goodness sake make a rule...if there is a line up of more than 2 cars...park your car and walk in...There is nothing worse than watching a car idle away uselessly for 10mins in the drive thru.

-Similarly, if you are shoveling snow off the car - it doesn't need to idle for 10 mins while you clear it off...2 mins is sufficient and finally, if you're waiting for someone in a car...turn the car off if you're waiting longer than 25 seconds

-It's never a bad idea to check the exhaust on your vehicle and to check your vehicles emissions...be concerned about how much you pollute and if your car is burning oil do us a favor and haul it off the road.

-Of course like so many others have said, change light bulbs to energy efficient ones, put a sweater on and turn the heat down, RECYCLE, and compost.

Look up something called the "Maunder Minimum"(Midieval Warming period) and "Little Ice Age"! Both took place before SUVs, CFCs, or even the industrial revolution! During the Maunder Minimum, we had temps so high that the Vikings were growing crops in Iceland! The temps were as high as today! I guess those nasty Vikings were driving hummers? During the period known as the little ice age, people in northern Europe froze and starved to death because they couldn't grow crops! These swings in tempatures happen all the time. We have only had a thermometer up the planet's butt for a few hundred years. Only the last 150 years with any accuracy at all. Let's not rush into the "Man made" disaster mode without looking at the facts. The facts are that there is a lot of money to be made from scaring people with this BS. A 13Watt bulb is the equivalent of a 60Watt incandenscent bulb, consequently saving on electricity. I was quite surprised and pleased not only with the savings on our electricity bill but the aspect of something so simple making a difference in lower power consumption makes you at least feel like you're doing something.

The expense of changing over isn't that costly either. Costco usually has specials on these bulbs. The bulbs last several years which make them very cost effective.

What else? I need a job. I like to write. I can be more serious at times. Bye.|||The absolute lack of tangible evidence for global warming, as perceived by us Americans, myself included up to nearly a year ago represents the first and most prominent battle in this fight. Only as united in mass numbers can each and every person make a difference. Using more efficient appliances, lightbulbs, one less errand in the car per week, planting a tree or preserving an existing one, and recycling are all very very important steps that 90% of us need to make a priority to acheive success. While 7-10% are the only ones participating in more than half of the ways mentioned above, sadly those efforts will never overcome what the rest of the world does to the contrary.

We're dying for a progress report from a trusted source so people can see that what they do makes a difference in our local, very real world. A public accounting, and not a government panel research piece, is what is necessary to mobilize these efforts. One household can produce a profound effect in the results on their own block or in their own neighborhood. Believe me. A means for measuring this needs to be developed. When the Jones family puts their recycle bins on the curb, the Smiths are more likely to do it as well. The same goes for planting of trees and other things. When that impact is publicly noted from one neighborhood to another, we have a united cause that we're all a part of.

Not so much of an education campaign but an involvement campaign is what will be necessary. Education campaigns are only gaining the passive attention of the public, and are muddled in the sea of political bias, evidence from other parts of the world and difference of opinion in the way these facts are presented. We can do better than that. Imagine local news reporting that communities "A,B and D" paid lower electric and heating bills, planted 8 more trees and recycled 20% more last month as compared with communities "C and F" right next door. You're involved whether you like it or not, and will seek the education to know what this is all about once you've seen it enough times to make you curious. Public awareness will develop on its own without specifically urging people, begging people to pay attention to what Leo and Al and all the others have to say.

Lastly, these efforts have the capability to save EVERY American money. These practices lower our utility bills, save us money at the gas pump, and in other ways put money right back in our pockets. On the scale of mass population, these economic incentives will make our economy stronger if we're all participating. Money in our pockets grows our businesses and saves for college and increases our standard of living.

What is the best solution for the Illegal Sand Mining in the Caribbean?

One of the major environmental problems in the Caribbean is the Illegal Sand Mining. Once the sand is an essential resource for construction, what solution we might have for this concern? What is the best solution for the Illegal Sand Mining in the Caribbean?Very good question!

In my point of view, the solution for the ILLEGAL sand mining is the LEGAL sand mining, what means to take the sand from where it will not affect the environment. In the Caribbean Islands, we don鈥檛 have many areas available to extract the sand. The best option to concider is to find sources in the continent.

In British Guyana, there is a company named GUYANA SAND INC which has been created with this proposal.

Many governments are considering this new company as the most accessible solution to minimize the illegal sand mining that is affecting the environment heavily in the Caribbean Islands. This company received an internation award for its initiative early this year.

I hope my answers satisfy your needs. What is the best solution for the Illegal Sand Mining in the Caribbean?
I have done a fast research and, in my opinion, the best solution for the Islands is to get the sand from Guyana Sand Inc, which was built and developed by Environmental Engineers only for this purpose.

I don't see better solution or other viable possibility to solve this matter definitively. The Governments should NOW take all necessary actions in order to STOP COMPLETELY the illegal sand mining in the islands. What is the best solution for the Illegal Sand Mining in the Caribbean? This theme has been discussed several times around the Caribbean, but I didn鈥檛 hear about any solution for it. Sand is needed and we have to identify a solution for this matter urgently, otherwise we will continue destroying the Islands. What is the best solution for the Illegal Sand Mining in the Caribbean?
The best solution is to stop the illegal sand mining by promoting a reliable supplier of sand such as GUYANA SAND INC. This Organization is doing a great job and bringing a great contribution to the environment. Congratulations!!What is the best solution for the Illegal Sand Mining in the Caribbean? The Caribbean Islandas should care more about it's beaches. The Islands should worry about the environment. This situation can't continue like that!! It should be the priority to stop the beache's sand mining.

The entire caribbean is running out of sand!!!!!!!!!!

Problems that are facing developing nations?

I have to write a paper on a minimum of 3 issues facing developing nations (5 paragraph essay) and I am having difficulty finding any reoccurring problems that I can work into an essay together. I am a HUGE green party fanatic as well so environmental issues are preferable. I do NOT want an essay written for me, I just want to know of some current issues that I may have overlooked.

Thank you!Problems that are facing developing nations?I would suggest that pollution is not really the major factor facing developing nations, as industrialisation always leads to inevitable pollution, though, there are some other cases...

One of these is in Northern India, where the massive rush to industrialise has caused many to over-log and destroy many of the natural forests on the hills there, this has led to much of the top soil being washed away, and allows rain to flood the areas much easier, as the water is able to flow faster.

A non green issue would be that of stability, both politically and economically. FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) will not occur if the country is seen to be a dangerous investment, therefore there must be basic macroeconomic stability as well as political in order for investment to ocurr, thought this is a bit of a downward spiral, as you cannot get this without investment in the first place.

Lack of an educated workforce is another one you can put in there, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to lack of stability, and therefore lack of investment.Problems that are facing developing nations?pollution, development is priority,

Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment?

I know all the stats and about how a meat-eater uses more of the land than a plant-eater, but does this atually help with environmental problems? In short, does becoming a vegetarian solely for environmental reasons actually worth the effort.?Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment?I think long term studies would have to be done.

I think vegetarianism is a personal choice, at least it is to me. I don't try to convince others unless I am specifically asked my opinion. So I would not be claiming that it makes a difference to the environment. I don't see convincing the entire world to be vegetarian any time in the near future, considering that we cannot even achieve peace for an entire day.Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment?
Let me put it like this: There is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist.Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment?Every little bit helps. The use of large industrial monoculture that is common in industrialised agriculture, typically for feed crops such as corn and soy is more damaging to ecosystems than more sustainable farming practices such as organic farming, permaculture, arable, pastoral, and rain-fed agriculture.

Environmental vegetarians call for a reduction of first world consumption of meat, especially in the US. According to the United Nations Population Fund "Each U.S. citizen consumes an average of 260 lbs. of meat per year, the world's highest rate. That is about 1.5 times the industrial world average, three times the East Asian average, and 40 times the average in Bangladesh."In addition, "the ecological footprint of an average person in a high-income country is about six times bigger than that of someone in a low-income country, and many more times bigger than in the least-developed countries."Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment?
it would help some. i care about the environment and eat meat none-the-less. if you can pull it off, more power to you!

if you look at human evolution, we always ate mostly plants and grains and only occasionally had meat. it is still like this in poorer countries. now that we have all this money as a society, we "grow" cows like the native americans grew maize. the energy in getting a cow from a calf to your dinner plate is enormous compared to simply eating some beans.Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment? You should choose diet based on your own personal preferences, health issues and beliefs. You only get one chance to treat your body like the temple God created.
worth the effort? - I think if you are really committed to being a evrionmentalist, yes you should be a vegetarian. Do research, you will learn that there are many great benefits a veg*n lifestyle. Example:

    Good health

    Kindness to animals

    helping to limit starvation. -

Starvation in many countries is due to meat. Instead of feeding the grains to animal, we should be feeding them to the 165, 000000. people that die of hunger.

Its like we feed the grians to the animals that produce meat.

4.8 pounds of grian is used to produce 1 pound of meat.

We need to feed that 4.8 pounds to babies that are dying because they do not have food!

http://www.goveg.com/environment-globalw鈥?/a>Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment?
yeah, think about all the sewage those animals create. That's one reason why the rivers and lakes are so polluted.
The professor of my Environmental Studies course was vegetarian for environmental reasons alone. Being vegetarian dramatically reduces the amount of land, water, and oil resources consumed and the amount of pollution caused. The environmental organization Greenpeace describes going vegetarian as "a powerful action you can take to help protect the environment." So yes, I do think that the environmental benefits are worth the effort of going veg.

More info on the environmental aspects of vegetarianism:

http://goveg.com/environment-wycd-footpr鈥?/a>Does having a vegetarian diet actually make a difference to the environment?
First of all,(re: 2 posters in this thread who now seem to have disappeared) ignore anyone who argues for eating meat by saying things like: "we were given canine teeth" and "it's been proven we need to eat meat" We do NOT have proper canine teeth, we have a couple of teeth that are slightly pointy and slightly longer but nowhere near what a dog's or cat's teeth look like and it's widely accepted that we can get more than enough protein from the vast amount of other protein-rich foods available.

It is true that a vast proportion of the world's problems, environmental, social and financial, would instantly be solved if EVERYONE stopped eating meat. While there are still millions of people who regularly gorge on animal parts these problems will remain.

However, every day more people are turning vegetarian so although it may take some time, one day I believe (or hope at least) that all human beings will be largely vegetarian and the world will see the benefits in all terms including environmental.
Yes. Producing meat causes more damage to the environment than plant foods.

GREEN HOUSE EFFECT - Sheep and cattle produce methane via their "gas". Methane gas is 21 times more potent to the environment than carbon dioxide. Add to this the emissions from tranporting and refrigerating the poor animals and their bodies. Choosing to give up meat is the BIGGEST STEP you can take to teduce your impact on the evironment.

Meat uses more ENERGY, just as driving a car does, slaughterhouses and transporting the animals uses up a lot of energy - more so than producing flour/bakey/ cereal products (nearly twice as much).

It uses more WATER - meat production uses twice as much as rice, for a bit less calories. It also causes much pollution and waste of water - abbotiors and pig effluent.

Land usage - eg. in Australia 800 000 hectares of land is used to produce grain for feeding the animals that are going to be slaughtered.

Fish - there is a by-catch of fish that are killed for all the fish that are brought in to eat. Approx 40-50% by-catch, or birds and marine mammals and fish that are killed on the side not to be eaten, for all the ones bought in to eat. Some by-catch includes dolphins, particularly tuna fishing.
No it does not make a difference since the number of vegetarian is so minimal as to have any impact at all. And it is quite ignorant and arrogant to assume that meat eaters cannot be evironmentalists. The late Steve Irwin was an omnivore. So is Sir Attenbourough, Jack Hanna et al. These people have done more as individuals what thousands of preaching vegetarians claim to be doing for the environment but are actually not.

In the UN report in Feburay of 2007 (as opposed to the same report claimed by vegetarians but made in Feb, 2006), consumption of fossil fuels is identified as the biggest danger to the environment. If you consider that many vegetarians are automibile users, then any "difference" supposedly made by vegetarianism is negated many times over. Then you also have the conversion of natural habitat to crop farms. Remember that before there were farms, there were animals living in those lands and many of those animals are extinct or endangered because of loss of habitat. Not in the Brazilain amazon rainforest but closer to home, in the US itself. Not crop farms for animal feed but farms for human consumption.

The environmental issue is a subject for all people to address. It is ridiculous and arrogant of a certain group of indivisuals( and a very minority group at that) to claim sole credit for solving the problem. Especially when they probably contrubiute as much to the problem as the other group people they would rather choose to blame. Especially when their claim of providing the solution is nothing more than childish "makes-me-feel-good-about-myself" wishful thingking at best. Just because some vegetarians are deluded into thinking they are helping solve the problem ( as what PETA and other such websites would like them to believe), it doesn't mean they really are.
It makes a difference in MY environment. Ever notice how you frequent the same places and walk down the same streets and see the same people every day? We actually live in a very small world - when we factor in where we as individuals actually go.

In my environment, it makes a difference. In the whole scheme of things, I don't know. I do know that it's often said that going vegetarian makes more of a difference than anything else - like buying hybrid cars or recycling. Al Gore was questioned about why is isn't vegetarian, after the release of his documentary, and he chose not to respond.

It takes 10 pounds of grain to produce one pound of beef.
Its been prov-en that you need the meats protein in your diet and the calcium from dairy but just be careful on what meat you buy always buy from a butcher shop and always cut off as much fat as possible Trust me a few vegetarians get malnourished from the low protein diet and they may be tired alot, I've tried it and its not that great. just take care of yourself.

When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?

Will the environmental movement's "boy who cried wolf" problem have been greatly exacerbated by the global warming scare?

When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?I grew up in South Dakota in the Black Hills. I love the environment and am a genuine conservationist. I see many so called environmentalists are from the City, don't know the first thing about the environment, couldn't tell the difference between a wolf and a poodle, want to turn the "environment" into their play ground and restrict humans from enjoying it, and are more about gaining control over every aspect of your life from how many squares you can use, to how high to turn up your thermostat, etc. One thing is clear, the left uses and abuses the environment to push their agenda. They sue anyone that dares consider drilling for oil or putting a dam, let alone a nuclear power plant. It seems to me they are not interested in saving the environment. It is more about pushing their political agenda. When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?
Very insightful question, you get a star. As you probably know the so called scientists screaming loudest about about global warming are the very same ones that were predicting an ice age as imminent In the 1970's. We have a saying here in the NW USA. "Only fools and newcomers attempt to predict the weather" As you have no doubt observed the longer range the prediction the less accurate it becomes. The Global Warming predictors have seriously damaged their credibility by their choice of the proven liar and failed politician Al Gore as their spokesman. I believe they diminish and discredit the whole scientific community by insisting that the actions of the race of mankind can have more than a very minimal influence on global weather patterns. When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?I think the impact won't be as great as some might think, largely because of the reasons I've been harping on for a couple of weeks-other environmental impact(s) of 6+ billion human beings competing for limited resources, and economics not necessarily connected to global warming with with very similar actions required-like alternative energy. That already has considerable momentum, and I suspect that any number of people who went through the last energy crises and warnings about dire consequences to mankind that turned out to not be quite as dire as predicted are going to go GEEZ, how many times do we have to go THROUGH this? How many times do we have to suffer energy inflation, not to mention the stress of tense international relations-and even war-that boils down to oil?

You know, we got all complacent 30 some years ago after a big old hue and cry about alternative energy and getting less dependent on foreign oil. As soon as the price of a barrel dropped some and we adjusted to spending more for less, we forgot all about the underlying problems, even though most people knew they'd eventually come back to haunt us. Now, whether it is global warming or some other imminent crisis, we're being forced to deal with it. What are we going to do when we calm down? Tear down all the wind turbines we've built or turn back the clock on technology? I don't think so.

And I think that despite any failings in data and research that may exist which have lead to the present conclusions about the climate, people will appreciate refined technology and research when it becomes available and tomorrow not be all that concerned about any errors made today. They might not listen to this guy or that guy anymore, but more knowledgable and authoritative leaders will emerge from the mess.

There will always be people-like the ones here-who get a big burr under their saddles and go well it just p****d ME off so bad that now I leave the lights burning at night deliberately or whatever, but I'd like to think those folks who are immature enought to sh*t in our community nest just because some guy named Al Gore or whomever ticked them off are few and far between. Those are the ones we have to watch, not the self-styled canaries in the coal mine. When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?
The "scare" has spanned 3 decades. It is firmly planted into the minds of the western civilization, and it is doubtful it will "go away."

As far as the "boy who cried wolf" conclusion, I believe most people are already reluctant to believe the next great threat they hear from the media. However, sadly, the masses still seem to cling onto the "little" threats.

We are all mostly sheep... waiting to be told what to believe...When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?Very good question!

I am all for conservation and responsible use of our earth and to the end that it causes use to use energy more efficiently (to provide a single example) I see this as a good. However, you are right, crying wolf too many times is in itself, a problem... as the Global Cooling crowd of the mid 1970s did. People need to dial down the hysterics and have a rational discussion.
Boom we would not be facing any shortness of resources if the space program started under Ike and carried on under JFK, LBJ, Nixon and Ford had been allowed to continue as planned. But instead all the advanced science programs that would have led to power generation and industry there were shut down by Carter because they potentially would have hurt the profits of certain oil men and bankers that had funded him for the job.

Now it will be 10 years at least before space based solar even gets really going because the program was scrapped during the Carter years and all the engineers that worked on it are retired or dead. Renewables other than hydro will never be able to handle more than 20% of the load no matter how they are promoted. Nuclear is the best option for balance because it is clean and renewable through recycling of used material back into fresh once the anti nuke edicts of Carter are reversed by congress. Eventually 80% plus of the worlds needs will be met by space based solar with nuclear supplementing it and other sources such as wind, solar, geo thermal and others where they are practical.

Look up instead of down and you will see there are no limits to growth. When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?
Your assumption that the GW "scare" will end conflicts with many AGW doubters beliefs that we should wait and see all the science before implementing CO2 mitigation strategies. Based on the time frame scientists believe these changes will occur, most of us will be dead by then and the "When" will never happen.
Yes absolutely. Both science and environmental issues will suffer because of the AGW scam. People are already becoming cynical enough. This will not help. The world is a scarier place because of this hoax. Just when you think humanity is becoming better, we have a huge setback like this. How in the world did we get to the place, that so many of us would welcome a lie? When the global warming scare is over, what will the impact have been to legitimate environmental concerns?
I know I used to recycle, until Gore came along, when he started his "we must do this and this, and the chain saw is the most dangerous thing every made by man" I just lost it.

Now its mine, if I want to throw it in the trash, so be it.

It's not a scare or a scam it's real and the vast majority of scientists agree. No when the few skeptics are finally forced to agree as most already are support for environmental concerns will remain high.
Legitimate environmental causes will suffer because of the Gore-athlic religion of global warming.

Supposed to know this for my finals. No idea..Science environmental degradation Q please help!?Egads. Did you learn nothing in class? Are you serious about going into a science-related field?

This really depends on what we're looking at. In terms of carbonation and global warming, deforestation is the biggest environmental damager. It removes CO2-filtering trees from the environment, and many times the process of deforestation (gas-powered equipment, burning, razing) generates even more CO2.

The other culprit would likely be industrial farming. Industrial farming, like deforestation, tends to clear out a lot of natural vegetation from an area. The soil is then stripped of its nutrients, requiring heavy fertilizers to keep the crops going. Pesticides and herbicides add to the problem, poisoning the soil and the water for miles and miles.

The impact of oil, mining, chemical pollution, etc etc can all be traced back to industry and capitalism. How could industrialism be related to environmental issues going on today?chemicals that were created back then are still present here right now, just like all the oxygen ;)

What are the 5 biggest problems facing the Human Race and in what priority?

I have made a list of what I think are our major problems but without any priority. You may use my list or come up with your own but please keep in mind that I am talking about our whole planet not just specific regions or countries - I know many of you would like to see affordable 90 inch Hi-def (1080p) Plasma screens as number one. Also try to make the problem specific in description but encompassing the major populous. Here's my list of problems:

    Energy Crisis

(High oil prices, Peak oil, high food prices)

    Food Crisis

(High food prices, famines, food rationing, starvation)

    Pollution

(Green house gas emissions, acid rain, toxic waterways and reserves, disease, bad health)

    Climate Change

(Melting polar caps, rising sea levels, water shortages, floods and other escalated natural disasters)

    Economic Disasters

(Sub prime crash, stock market crash, business collapse, money shortage)

    Epidemic Disasters

(Bird Flu, Aids, Bubonic plague, mad cow, Ebola)

    Environmental Disasters

    Over Population

(Food shortage, water shortage, resource shortages, housing shortage, price escalation, disease, pollution, greed, wars, prejudice, murder, higher mortality rate from environmental disasters)

What are the 5 biggest problems facing the Human Race and in what priority?World population, 1970 approximately 3,300,000,000

    World population, 2008 approximately 6,700,000,000

and growing by 1,000,000,000 every four days.

Most other problems are just symptoms of this one. What are the 5 biggest problems facing the Human Race and in what priority?
humanity being evil ( we cant help it...or can we...?)

    human aggression

destroying or beautiful planet( i think we should live without technology)

    humans not being open minded

not knowing what is reality ( new science has just said a whole bunch of stuff that we think is reality but isn't. if we don't know what reality is....than.........)

food crisisWhat are the 5 biggest problems facing the Human Race and in what priority?Bad clothes. The things some people wear!

Celebrities. There just isn't enough gossip to make it interesting!

The economy. Poor people should pay more taxes. Not us!

Sun block. Every year it is more confusing about which is good!

Television. A few more cable channels, please. What are the 5 biggest problems facing the Human Race and in what priority?
One word greedWhat are the 5 biggest problems facing the Human Race and in what priority?1. Food quality and supply.2. Enviro-destruction ( clear cut logging, air/water pollution, excessive garbage production to name a few). 3.Oil and it's negative politics. Along w/ overuse of it.4. War mongering, military industrial complex. Earth was Garden of Eden, now it's been a war planet since man and my final problem came along.5. Religion. It divides and causes more hate and war along with mindless overpopulation! All for myth and theory!

    Environmental Science Questions! Please Help?

    1. When can a biodegradable material like newspaper become a pollutant?

    2. How can we reach a sustainable world?

    3. During which period in human history did nost of the environmental problems that we see today?

    4. The chance that an earthquake will occur during the next year is an example of _________.

    5. Which step in the experimental method are scientists conducting when they photograph birds in flight?

    6. Why are curiosity and imagination important in science?Environmental Science Questions! Please Help?1. when there is too much of it to degrade quickly or its in an area where the degrade matter is still a pollutant.

When it is burned instead of naturally decomposed.

    2. Educate population in better behaviors; design systems so that recycling is easy - example why dont city waste colletions wont pickup car batteries - these are almost 100% recyclable. Why do they take steel/metal again these are recyclable.

Reduce packaging; I mean have you ever tried to open one of those indestructible plastic shells that cover hard tools and electroics.

Finally all product design must include a disposal plan. For exaample a Tv should be desined so the platics can be easy separted from the metal; the heavy metals from the wires and glass. That way it will more economical to recycle.

City should allow "junk men" to pickup metals and other itmes off the curb. Many will ticket you for this.

    3. Industrial Revolution. NO thought at all given to pollution. Steel mills of Cleveland and Pittsubugh spewed soot and gaes with not concern. Oli Companies; mining companies used toxic materials in theri processing and did not have to control them; just dumped them into rivers.

Is sustainable agriculture the key to todays problem of increasing environmental degradation?

I think Victor works for Monsanto.

He seems to know a lot, if you lived in a box and never left the city his comments might seem to make a lot of sense. Some of the scary things he says may indeed come to pass, but not because of 'natural' causes.

First, GMO, Genetically Modified Organism are flat out dangerous. you can do your own research use your own logic and common sense to make a decision on that.

The federal govt and companies that create GMOs are doing more to damage not only our agricultural abilities but the environment as well.

One right after the other the family farm is being pushed out of existence. Farm land is being reduced, and more and more held by a few large agri-corps. Agriculture itself is so legislated on the small scale that very very soon it is going to be illegal to grow your own vegetables in your own garden. Huge tracts of farm-able land sits, all through the United States. There are more places than less in the U.S. where you can drive for hours through land that could be farmed? Why is it not? Laws. Thats the only reason.

I find it interesting that some talk about "sustainable farming" sustainable farming was pioneered in the 1800s and perfected right up to the 1940s. By that time the small independent farmer pretty much had it down, crop rotation etc.

I feel for Moosedog, he's so close to the problem and even he doesnt see the big picture. He thinks its all just economics, but it's not. Its a systematic plan that has been well executed over many years.

This is not conspiracy theory craziness, this is observation of a few facts.

If demand is greater than supply, the price goes up.

If the total number of farmland decreases and total amount of product supplied decreases then demand must exceed supply and thereby drive prices up.

If prices increase due to normal factors, then the original supplier (the farmer) should realize a higher profit for their produce.

We have less farmland and fewer farms.

We have less produce from that farmland and fewer farms.

We have larger population that must consume that produce. Making the demand obviously exceed the supply, driving the prices up.

That would mean a greater dollar income to the farmer. But as Moosedog may testify the individual farmer is not realizing an increase in income.

    Why?

Where is the money. Your paying more for a gallon of milk at the grocery store than ever before. But the independent dairies all over the nation are dumping their milk because they cant make enough money to sell it. Independent dairies across the nation are not making more for a gallon of milk then they made 5 years ago, yet the retail price of milk has gone up ten fold in that time period. Half of the dairy farms that were around ten years ago are now gone. Where's the money going? I don't know, but I know it's not getting down to the farmer.

meh. who cares. your not listening anyway. Is sustainable agriculture the key to todays problem of increasing environmental degradation? No. As long as you do not describe what you mean by "sustainable agriculture", every form of agriculture is sustainable. Also you have to describe "environmental degradation" and where it is situated.

Remember "the" environment does not exist because you have show us where it is.

Hope you are helped with this answer. Is sustainable agriculture the key to todays problem of increasing environmental degradation?
All agriculture is sustainable so long as sufficient seeds and young animals are raised for the next crop or harvest.

However, the population of the planet has doubled in about 40 years to 6 billion. We might expect it to rise to 10 billion by 2030 and to 40 billion by 2100. There is no possibility of feeding this population with current agricultural methods or food-crops.

Also, that number of people cannot possibly live in the territories we currently occupy. More and more land must be given over to housing, water collection, water treatment and sewage management, transport and so on.

The answer must lie in two scientific developments:

    1. Genetic modification of crops to produce higher yields, longer storage life, greater nutritional value.

    2. Changes to current agricultural processes where vast areas of land are given over to rather low-yield old fashioned crops. New high-concentration crops must produce 50 tonnes per hectare instead of the current 5-10 tonnes, in controlled environments, with appropriate additives, collected by industrial methods and distributed around the world by new transport technologies.

Otherwise, the end of the human race will not come by disease or nuclear war but by bad old-fashioned famine. If today's farming methods are still in use in 2050, we might expect two-thirds of the human race to die of starvation. Not in USA, of course, because the administration will make sure that fertile areas of the Earth are under US military control. It will just be everyone else who starves to death. Is sustainable agriculture the key to todays problem of increasing environmental degradation?I won't go into detail, but jackiniraq is wrong on several accounts.

About this environmental degradation, it's obvious you're a young person. I'm sure I've been around a lot longer than you and take my word for it that the environment (at least in the US) is in much better shape than it was 40 years ago. And a heck of a lot better shape than in the early part of the 19th century. Just about all of the EPA "Superfund" clean up sites are from businesses that were in operation pre-1970.

I remember when in 1969 the Cuyahoga River in Ohio actually caught fire and burned for several days. It was so polluted with industrial wastes that once it caught fire, it had to burn itself out. And how Lake Erie was so polluted that the game fishing business was nearly gone but now the water is clean and game fishing is thriving. I also remember seeing signs along the Potomac River in 1978 that forbade swimming because the water was polluted badly enough to be dangerous to human health. And bald eagles being put on the endangered list because DDT thinned their egg shells (they have now been removed from the endangered list). When I was a kid, roadside littering left highways looking like a trash dump. In the early 1980's I worked on "RAMP" projects reclaiming abandoned strip mines left over from the 1930s where the pH of the runoff water tested 1.8-2, stronger than vinegar. Let's not forget high levels of lead in vegetables grown in fields and gardens near heavily traveled roads because of leaded gasoline. And health problems in large cities because of smog. And let's not forget rubber being a major air pollutant in Los Angles from automobile tire wear. LA later became the first US city to require the use of longer wearing radial tires. Look up any of the key words I used and you'll see that I'm not making any of this up.Is sustainable agriculture the key to todays problem of increasing environmental degradation?
I live on a farm and if somthing isn't done there wont be no farming. Everey thing you grow and try to feed, in the end you dont make anything. It to expensive to fertilize and spray crops to come out in the end. It is to expensive to feed animals and then take them to sell and not get enough to pay your feed bill, and we grind our own feed. The small farms will be gone before you know it and then watch the price of food and clothing sky rocket. The economy doesn't help us right know and neither is obama. Is sustainable agriculture the key to todays problem of increasing environmental degradation?nope.. population reduction is the answer.. we are currently over 6.7 billion people.. every mouth to feed, every one wanting toilet paper for their bums... more people also = more pollution etc..

We have major problems like Climate Change and Child Hunger, then we have less talked about problems like human trafficking and religious cults. I'm just trying to bring all of these issues together. Any resources or ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

This issue has been a problem for the last several years as the government has debating and weighing the economic vs. the environmental effects.

The causes of the problem are the people who desire to urbanize. And the growing population which is in need of homes.

This problem affects my hometown because alot of the wildlife that exists and the ecosystems will be completly destroyed. This disrupts our area and the species we have come to know and love. Also, it leads to deforestation. This in turn leads to increased flood as precipitation has no where else to run.

This problem could be solved simply by not urbainzing Clover Valley. We should develop it into a national reserve. Established homes provide enough shelter for those looking to move into the area.Describe an environmental problem (in your hometown). *?

    problem: landslides

how long: ever since forests here have been diminished immensely.

cause: foreign and local illegal loggers, forest fires, lack of environment awareness for local people.

affects: a simple raon shower can cause a landslide. houses are buried, lives are lost. the most drastic time we got was when a typhoon past by. classes were suspended, so we were sent home from school. landslide swept over us. 10 of us died.Describe an environmental problem (in your hometown). *?Atlanta, GA and surrounding areas

    Lack of water in reservoirs.

Began a couple of years ago, and now is a major crisis.

    Lack of rainfall; drought.

Mandatory restrictions on water use; no watering lawns or washing cars. No outdoor burning. Voluntary measures to save on indoor use of water. It also ruined my husband's business -- pressure washing.

Solution: Conserve water as much as possible, any way we can. Hope that Mother Nature dumps a lot of rain on us soon. (The drought is expected to last at least until next spring.)

Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?

While we can minimize our impact on the Earth, we cannot completely eliminate having a carbon footprint.

Do you feel bad or guilty knowing that you are adding to the problems of the Earth, knowing that you are adding to already bad environmental problems? How do you live with the guilt?Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?I didn't till I read this........Where's that nearest bridge?Wait.....If I drown will that hurt our problems?Where's that kerosene?...Wait..Ozone layer problem....Don't know what to do now.Maybe I'll just drink a Snapple instead.Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?
No....because I don't believe in it. We've only been keeping records on climate for maybe 200 years. Ice Ages last tens of thousands of years. We may be "between Ice Age" where it heats up, before maybe 20-30,000 years down the road, we're under an mile or so of ice, down to Kentucky again........Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?ugh... THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING CAUSED BY MAN! we are moving in a better direction, but its actually cooling. the earth has cooled in the past 10 years. The only reason ice caps are melting is because of a volcanic root placed under antarctica. So if you ask me there is no reason to feel guilty about something that is fake and the press makes you think is terrible. everyone thinks that their doing something terrible just by driving. overall dont care about it and if you need further proof look online and research and you can have more proof.Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?
    No.

Stop believing the carp that nutjobs like Al Gore and his cooky paid-off scientists feed you.Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?no not nesscarcaially cuse im not causing most of the probelm

plus ur only cusing not even 15% of it only like 0.5 if u really think about it cause there are ppl doing worse!
no, because we are all apart of nature humans animals, we try with our sophisticated house and cars, and tv's not to be but living things should be here, now i don't expect people to give these up but we can reduce global warming, by using say certain types of light bulbs and such energy efficient things.Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?
It is found out that global warming cause raise in carbon dioxide, not the other way round. So don't worry too much.
We are so insignificant.Do you feel guilty that you add to the problem of Global Warming?
    Responsible stewardship.

    Just a thought...

Um... if you're trying to win people over to the skeptics side you might want to try a more adult approach.
NO! You are not a parasite on Earth so why feel guilty. Man made effects on Global warming is small anyway. Do your bit to cut pollution etc but CO2 is not a pollutant. Be more concerned with water management then CO2.

Every living thing affects the environment and the environment affects every living thing. It is part of how our world works, so I don't feel guilty about my contribution to this process.

Using our resources wisely and cleaning up after ourselves are good things in themselves, but they won't make a scrap of difference to global temperatures
    i do...
No.everybody is trying their best to protect the environment
just a little bit feeling guilty. because, sometimes we can't full avoiding our usually habit. like driving car to other places eventhough we know it can causes air pollution, or using too much electricity.. we need to do this, to keep our daily routine in balance.

but, when it came to using too much tissue pappers which are made by trees, i really concern about it. And either not to litter everywhere, it help our earth clean and more healthy. Maybe these are just a few contributed i can give to this earth..
I just love it when people say dumb things like we are putting more nitrogen into the air than nature can fix or Co2 and Nitrogen are major pollutants put into the air by human industry. This chart is scientifically correct and available on Wikipedia for verification.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth's_atm鈥?/a>

    Nitrogen 78.0842%

    Oxygen 20.9463%

    Water vapor About 1%

    Argon 0.9342%

    Carbon dioxide 0.0384%

    Other 0.0020%

People, especially global warming alarmists really need to get their basic facts straight before putting out their scare tactic propaganda.

I'd feel guilty if there were some proof of it.

no because I remain carbon neutral by cutting the gas %26amp; power to my neighbors house to cancel out my use.

this is identical to the U.N.'s IPCC recommendation to cut off fuel to the western nations so the third world nations can use all they want.

I'm thinking of stealing my other neighbors meters too, then maybe I can collect %26amp; sell carbon credits for extra income to pay my heating bill this winter.

hey, if it works for 3rd rate has been politician's it can work for me!
smile p you are a fool. The antarctic ice sheet is still the same size as it has always been because most of the warming has occurred 60 degrees north which explains why 2005, 20006 and 2007 have been in the top three for smallest ice sheets. Look at the long term historical pictures from satellites and it will show this change.

What volcano under antarctica show me data or something you cant just make stuff up.

I live in tasmania where most of our power is hydro and wind and i drive a small car or ride a bike. I still have an impact but i try and minimise it. Its countries like the US that will be stuffed if AGW is true because they have made no effort to reduce emissions and they are the biggest polluter along side china so if coal and oil prices go up and there is no alternative the economy will bite the dust. That will reduce emissions.

For an insignificant species we have already converted 30% of the land into pasture and make in factories more nitrogen is produced than can be fixed in nature. Also the atmosphere and ocean have already shown signs of change in the increasing concentrations of greenhouse gasses and ocean acidification.
yes, because all of our actions affect the condition of our environment and if this global warming continues our specie might not survive or even exist

and the humans' only goal in life is to survive........

Why is Global warming an environmental problem?

It is only a problem to those who always say the sky is falling. Why is Global warming an environmental problem?Because the 1930's were the hottest years in North American recorded history. Fortunately, it has cooled down considerably, with the US posting amazingly cold winter temperatures the last two years.. Now that the solar max is about over, the forecast is for global warming to cool down the Earth over the next 11 or so years, in keeping with the solar cycle, but also in keeping with "computer models."

Until then, prepare for your life-style to be altered by force of government, and your money to be re-distributed.

Me, I'm worried about ManBearPig.Why is Global warming an environmental problem?
B/c the environment is warming faster than certain species can adapt.

Weather is a short-term estimate that is affected by a number of things-climate is the 'over-all' picture of what is happening globally.

Some say it's an all natural thing and that the (massive) human population doesn't effect it, but that seems to be a silly argument and is not supported by the majority of climatologists. Why is Global warming an environmental problem? When the environment around us goes through this kind of rapid change, many life forms do not have an ability to adapt. As extinctions increase, and the level of biodiversity drops, our ability to sustain ourselves is also imperiled. Finding crops that will withstand uncertain rainfall patterns and the likelihood of more extreme weather events will imperil many a nation, especially if the population doesn't stabilize.

A few links that may be of interest to you in looking for more detailed information. Why is Global warming an environmental problem?
Because humans are the predominate and most active bipedal vertebrate. It would be naive to think we didn't have a influences. There's always been fragile and transitional ecosystems. Some times we help other times we hinder. Most wildlife decline is due to the loss of habitat, but can have many other factors, whether its natural or man made. It would be great if it was truly a commensalistic relationship, but it's not... And probably never will be.Why is Global warming an environmental problem?it's not because its a lie many scientist are starting to say we may be head back into an ice age its just like in 1975 they were claiming we might have ice glacier coming as far down as Ohio by 2020 it was even a story in Time magazine don't believe what the Enviro-Nazi say the European space climate tracking agency Even said that the earths surface cooled by 3/4 of a degree when then %26amp; the Enviro-Nazi have been screaming because the earths syrface temp had increase by one degree over the last 100 years it just a load of crap to get a bunch restrictive law pass to make a lot money for groups like Green Peace for whom this has become almost like a religon
Seems like everything I've heard about it has to do with industrial pollution and chemicals that are in products we use cause a breakdown of the o zone, thus causing the earth's atmosphere to be warmer.
